We have received a lot of enquiries in relation to the Competent Person Scheme (CPS) for fabric measure and the requirement of building regulation notification.
For clarification, Building Control Notifications are mandatory under Building Regulations for any fabric measures to the following:
- Flat Roof
- External Wall Insulation (EWI)
- Internal Wall Insulation (IWI)
- Cavity Wall Insulation (CWI)
These are usually notified through the Competent Persons Scheme for ease, you can find all providers of the CPS via the following link: Click here
A member of CPS:
- Demonstrates Minimum Technical Competence (MTC) to get accredited.
- Effectively gets the ability to notify Building Control via the scheme.
- Schemes cost approximately £5.
Not a member of CPS:
- Individually and manually notifies Building Control. The procedure is also known as LABC notification.
- Might pay anything between £100 and £1,000 per notification.
Please note that all work is notified to Building Control under CPS schemes, albeit retrospectively and usually in bulk notifications. Technically, Building Control can, if they so choose, inspect work notified through a CPS.
