About Our IWI System
Our IWI system is designed to be easy to install for companies and installers in the retrofit sector, providing an efficient thermal upgrade for solid and uninsulated cavity walls with high levels of thermal performance. It is the most closely aligned system with the IWI Best Practice Guide from the government department DESNZ, ensuring that our customers receive everything needed for compliance with installation guidelines.
The system gives contractors, installers, local authorities, and retrofit coordinators confidence that it meets government guidelines for various funding schemes within the retrofit industry.
Sustainability
Sustainability is a core value at SWIP. Our IWI system incorporates Earthwool SWIP Batt glass mineral wool insulation with an A+ BRE Green Guide rating. Made from renewable materials such as silica sand and recycled glass bottles, it is also recyclable at the end of the building’s life.
Furthermore, our insulation is responsibly sourced and compliant with BES 6001: Issue 3.1.
Accreditations
Our IWI system has received several accreditations:
• Our glass wool has been rated ‘Very Good’ by the BRE.
• The system has been certified by the BBA as fit for its intended use.
• The Intello membrane meets UK Building Regulations 2010 (England and Wales) requirements.
Thermal Bridging
The use of SWIP Studs eliminates the thermal bridging systems that use timber and metal studs. SWIP studs provide a high level of thermal resistance, which is comparable to that of the Earthwool SWIP Batts fitted between the SWIP Studs. The SWIP IWI System is almost 13% more thermally efficient than a timber stud system of the same thickness.
IWI System Components
SWIP IWI EcoBatt Insulation: A high-performance, non-combustible, water-repellent glass mineral wool slab with excellent thermal and fire performance, designed to fit seamlessly without air gaps.
SWIP IWI Stud: Manufactured at our Birmingham site, this lightweight insulating stud is easy to cut and install, speeding up the process and minimising disruption. It combines a thermally engineered extruded polystyrene composite with oriented strand board (OSB).
Intello Membrane: This intelligent vapour membrane regulates humidity diffusion year-round by adjusting its permeability. By preventing moisture build-up, it eliminates risks of mould growth and provides superior airtightness.
